You’re invited! Join fellow history lovers and avid readers Monday, October 15, starting at 4 p.m. at the Middlesex County Women’s Club in Urbanna (210 Virginia Street) for a ‘For God, For Country … For Love’ book signing event with author Robbie Slaughter. The event is hosted by the Middlesex County Museum & Historical Society.
Robbie will be here from England to speak about his acclaimed book, the true story of his father, Dalton Roy Slaughter, a Middlesex County boy who was born in Church View in 1919.
A question and answer session will follow a 45-minute presentation by the author and conclude with a book signing.
A $10 admission will be charged at the door.
Dalton was one of the first US soldiers to land on Omaha Beach at the commencement of the iconic battle of D-Day. This personal and moving story that spans the years from 1929 to 1950 is becoming known worldwide and following several book signings in Normandy, France.
His presentation will place D-Day and Omaha into context with a brief but compelling overview portraying the enormity of D-Day and of those times – that young men stepped up to the plate and made sacrifices for the greater good – and lest we forget, young people continue to do the same today.
Reviews can be found by clicking on the paperback version at www.freewebstore.org/mybookstore.
Amongst others, it is sold at the Bedford D-Day Memorial and all the major museums and shops in Normandy.
