Fundraiser

November 14, 2021 @ 12:00 am

The Friends of Urbanna and the Middlesex County Museum & Historical Society welcomed guests to an afternoon of music and barbecue at the barn at historic Rosegill to celebrate the presentation of the Middlesex County Museum’s annual Preservation Award to Dr. Paul Malone.  The award was presented by Bob Montague, President of the Middlesex Museum.  In his research on the Mitchell Map and John Mitchell, Paul was “hooked” by the significance of this map and has worked tirelessly to research, tell and record the history of the John Mitchell Map and the role it has played in the history of our country.  It is referred to by the National Archives as one of the Most Significant Maps in our country’s history.  Dr. Malone has given much to our community by way of local lectures to organizations and frequent presentations at the Scottish Factor Store Museum in Urbanna.  Dr. Malone shared with all, the historical significance of our area in the development of our Country including the deep history represented in the Rosegill property and its role in the founding of the Town of Urbanna.

We appreciate the Scott family’s ongoing preservation of Historic Rosegill and their sharing it with all present at the event Sunday afternoon.  The group enjoyed remarks by Strother Scott on the ongoing work taking place at Rosegill and particularly the barn where the afternoon festivities were held.

The Friends of Urbanna and the Middlesex County Museum & Historical Society wish to thank all who attended and the following sponsors for making this event such a success: Gari Lister & Matt Gobosh, Tad Thompson, Lee Ramsay, Miles & Sharon Libby, Sandra Rudy, Jim Hays, Nancy Fisk, Peni Roberts, Jim Knupp, Michael Marketing Real Estate, Inc., Marilyn & Dave South, Cecil & Skip King, Southside Sentinel, Jamie Cornette/State Farm, Something Different, Joan & JD Magness, Marshall’s Drug Store, Bob Montague and Scott Krejci.
